AUGUST 25 - Humane Society of Greater Kansas City’s
9th Annual ART UNLEASHED
Spend an
evening viewing and bidding on beautiful, charming, original
pet-themed artwork from some of Kansas City's very best artists.
This “wonderful woof-ti-do” silent and live auction was originally
started by pet-loving artists from Hallmark.
Now hundreds of local, regional, and national artists participate
by donating their art work all for a good cause.
LOCATION: Grace & Holy Trinity Cathedral in Downtown Kansas
City, MO
TIME: 7:00 PM - 10:00 PM
COST: $25 per person in advanced or $30 per person at the
door.

SEPTEMBER 2-3 - SKC Handling Seminar
The
Sunflower Kennel Club is proud to announce that Mr. Corky Vroom will
be conducting a canine handling seminar. Mr. Vroom has had over 750
Best
In Shows and over 2000 Group Ones. He was originally licensed as an
All-Breed Handler in 1966. He has handled four Quaker Oats winners
and
seven Garden Group winners. Mr. Vroom has handled three dogs to Top
Dog
All-Breeds. He was voted Fido Dog Handler of the Year twice and
Kennel
Review Dog Handler of the Year twice.
Participants will be limited to twenty (20) beginners
and twenty (20) advanced students. The number of observers will be
unlimited. This seminar is to teach
the participants how to handle dogs. It is not a training class for
the dog.
LOCATION:
The seminar will be held at the new Sunflower Humane
Society facility, 8245 Hedge Lane Terrace, Shawnee, Kansas
(just west of Highway 7 on 83rd Street in Shawnee)
COST: The regular two-day fee is $150, which includes a
Continental
breakfast and lunch both days. The observer fee is $80.

Splish, Splash Puppy Bash
It’s gone to the Dogs! Bring your pup for a swimmingly good time!
Dogs will
be allowed to swim in the pool facility (four-legged swimmers only),
mingle
with other pets & pet owners, and just have some good clean fun! You
must
be pre-registered for this event, use walk-in registration at the
community center, and bring proof of shots/licenses to participate.
LOCATION: Indian Trails Aquatic Center (87th & Greenway Ln.)
TIME: 6:00 – 6:45 pm (small breeds) / 7:00 – 7:45 pm (large
breeds).
COST: $5 per dog. Max. 50 dogs per session.

First Annual K-9 Fun Run fundraiser
Participants and their dogs may choose to participate in the 1-mile walk,
the 2-mile run, or both! All human participants will get a t-shirt
and
all K-9 participants will get a small doggie bag! Registration forms
may
be picked up at the shelter (511 Main Street in Belton).

OCTOBER 1 - Blessing of the
Animals
A community-wide, ecumenical Blessing of the Animals service sponsored by
mid-town faith communities. All pet owners and their animal friends
are
welcome. The service consists of liturgical readings by clergy of
many faith traditions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhist, and others.
Members of
the clergy bless each animal and their human friend, and a commemorative
tag is given to each animal and complimentary refreshments will be served.
Animal adoption and rescue agencies are invited to bring a booth and
information to distribute to the audience.

Cabela’s 2006 DockDogs® National Championships
This is the one time each year when teams compete against other teams in
their division. This year’s event and festivities are shaping up to be
even bigger and better, “hopefully without the rain”.

OCTOBER 21 - Kick Off to the
Howlidays!
Come to the 2nd annual Rescue Rally fundraiser in the Northland.
Activities include: dog contests, dog games, demonstrations (including
agility from ABC Pet Training and The Dogs' Spot), door prizes, raffles,
vendors, food court and more! Doggie goody bags for the first 250
pre-registered. This event benefits ALL participating rescue groups.
